Fix windows Wifi Hotspot errors

“the hosted network couldn’t be started”

“The group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested operation “

this is an error message means the the hotspot can’t be started because of technical problems

the cause of this error can be several reasons.

1. you haven’t turned on your Wireless adapter

2. you have disabled the Microsoft virtual network adapter

3. due to the misconfiguration in network adapter settings.

 

here is some solution for the above problem.

Note: the error message can be identical in different version of windows (7, 8, 10) but the steps to solve the issue is very similar to each other

for the demonstration purpose I use windows 10.

 

error 1: the hosted network couldn’t be started

 

sol 1: turn on your wireless adapter or make sure the airplane mode is not turn on

some keyboard specially laptop keyboards have dedicated keys to turn on and off Wireless adapter and Bluetooth so make sure you haven’t accidentally turn off you WiFI and then try to start the hosted network

 

sol: 2 Enable Microsoft Hosted Network Virtual Adapter

 

“The group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested operation “

1. go to control panel

2. find network and Internet and then select Network and Sharing Center. select Change adapter settings from the lift pane.

 

3. right click on WI-FI adapter and disable and then right click again and enable it.

4. go to device manager, you can search for “device manager” in start menu or press Windows Key + R and then type in devmgmt.msc.

 

 

5. Scroll down, find Network adapters and expand it . Right click on Microsoft Hosted Network Virtual Adapter and enable it, your are down here, close the device manager.

6. open the command prompt. In the command prompt, type “netsh wlan start hostednetwork” and hit enter. Your hosted network should start successfully.

 

Sol 3: Change Settings in Power Management Tab

go to device manager, you can search for “device manager” in start menu or press Windows Key + R and then type in devmgmt.msc.

Scroll down, find Network adapters and expand it  From the list of devices, right-click on your wireless network adapter and select Properties

 

click on Power Management tab and check the option saying “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power“.

Click on OK to save the settings and close the “Device Manager”. Now reboot your PC and try to start the hosted network.

These solutions should fix the above error in Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 PC.
